Giving Back to the Iowa City Community

At The Wave Length, we believe in being committed to the Iowa City community. We support and participate in a variety of organizations and activities that work to improve conditions for a wide range of people. Please explore the links below and help us support these worthwhile causes.

Project Better Together

Project Better Together is a collaboration between the Iowa City Area Business Partnership, the Iowa City Area Development Group, the Iowa City Downtown District, and Think Iowa City. The website linked below is a tool meant to offer businesses, employees, and the community a variety of resources as the Iowa City area works together through the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Pilot Club of Iowa City

Pilot Club of Iowa City's mission is to influence positive change in the Johnson County Community. The members (including Cheryl Griffith, owner of The Wave Length) gather monthly in friendship and service to discuss programs that encourage physical as well as mental health and well-being. Additionally, the group explores ways to empower members of the community who demonstrate extraordinary care for others in their sphere of influence.

The Wave Length is proud to support The Pilot Club of Iowa City in their contribution to influential programs and dedication to making our community such a uniquely caring place!

Shelter House of Iowa City

The Wave Length participates in a yearly event called Cutting For a Cause, which provides free haircuts for the homeless and those in transition.

Since 1983, Shelter House has provided safe shelter and helped people improve the quality of their lives as they move beyond homelessness. They began in an old home in Iowa City with a capacity of 29 sleeping spaces including beds, couches, and mats on the floor.

Today, Shelter House operates a 70-bed emergency shelter in addition to four homes and an apartment building through which they provide 47 permanent supportive housing units. Their aim is to be a voice for systemic community change through excellence in service, financial stewardship, and the development of strong community partnerships.

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness)

NAMI is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. This important organization provides advocacy, education, support, and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives. Through hope, inclusion, empowerment, compassion, and fairness, NAMI works to impact communities every year!

One of the highlights of the year at The Wave Length is our participation in the Johnson County NAMIWalk. NAMIWalk is a fun, family-friendly event that takes place at Terry Trueblood Recreation Center. Team Wave Length raises funds to support individuals and families in our region.
